“Career Development: A Journey & An Approach”
Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD
Was invited by the course professor to present to class of counseling students in the school’s master’s program. Shared personal journey as a way of connecting with students and giving them an inspiring example about how a person can flourish in their life and career after personal tragedy and loss. Talked through multiple frameworks regarding career development, including personal model for career alignment. Also discussed the role of skill development. Offered insights regarding various tools used in professional practice and explained Cochran Coaching LLC’s approach in detail to educate students for their own career development and to better equip them to handle career challenges with their counseling clients.

“Discerning Your Life’s Direction”
Grace Community Church, Fulton, MD
Presented to the ~75 attendees of Grace’s “Men’s Ministry” at their monthly “Fuel Up” Saturday morning breakfast. Was brought in as a motivational speaker to share insights on how to discern direction, especially when life gets tough. Talked through multiple frameworks and used storytelling as a way of connecting with attendees.

“Keys to Communicating Across Generations”
Exit Planning Exchange (XPX-MD), Lutherville Timonium, MD
Presented to the “Emerging Leaders” group of 30+ professionals about the keys to communicating effectively across generations. Discussed how the disconnects between generations originate with their distinct perspectives. Explained how learning to “speak Millennial” or “speak Boomer” is an effective way to repair the rift. Discussed how to command respect by understanding and using the eight pillars of trust to build trust. Talked through the importance of seeking first to understand the other, and the disconnect that occurs when both parties talk and neither listens.

“Founders Forum” Lunch & Learn Presentation
Howard Tech Council at the Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship, Columbia, MD
Co-presented in the lunch & learn format to a room of 40+ members and prospective members at the Howard Tech Council. Presentation focused on the challenges that founders, entrepreneurs, and business owners face when starting and running a small business. A monthly executive round table group was formed out of attendees who committed to join following the presentation.

Facilitated Mission and Vision Discussion for Private Group Retreat
Private group: leaders of non-profit organization during annual retreat, Deep Creek, MD
Facilitated multi-hour discussion regarding shared definitions and established the mission and vision for the organization. Helped the organization’s leaders move from unfocused and discordant to clarity around their mission statement and their organization’s vision. This engagement also prepared the group for a follow-up session to hash out their approach (both their philosophy and specifics) to achieve their new mission to work toward their new vision.

“The Secret of Career (and Organizational) Effectiveness” Presentation to College Students
University of Maryland, College Park, MD
Presented to a club of college sophomores and juniors at the business school about career development and how to prepare for the “real world” before graduating from college. Presentation focused on the three stages of preparing for career development: “forging,” “sharpening,” and “honing.” The secret to career effectiveness is career alignment, and the secret to organizational effectiveness is coaching.

High School “Career Night”
Rockbridge Academy, Millersville, MD
At their first ever “Career Night,” presented personal career story, career development frameworks, and explained a skills assessment report to room of ~80 high school students and their parents, then participated in a panel discussion (with school alumni) as panelist to answer pressing questions about career growth after high school.

Engaged attendees of Grace’s Young Adults Group (~35 attendees) at a retreat center about how to find personal mentors and discussed the advantages of mentoring others.

“Networking and Interviewing: Novel & Effective Strategies for Your Job Hunt”
Grace Community Church, Fulton, MD
Presented to Grace’s “Impact Career Ministry” attendees, presenting five novel strategies to have a more effective job hunt. Concepts introduced included combining personal and professional networks for greater reach, creatively approaching targets by using online tools to find target contact information, reconnecting with old connections, preparing for interviews with a specific preparation routine, and finding creative ways to boost confidence.

Spoke to ~100 men in Grace’s “Men’s Ministry” on lessons learned when a personal tragedy interrupts life and career. How to overcome grief and how to refocus one’s career after a personal detour were elements of the presentation.
